HOW WE HELP

The mission of 'Friends of Jan Jan Bureh Nursery' Charity is to provide resources and training for Jan Jan Bureh Nursery in The Gambia. It aims to support continuing Professional Development for teachers, in order to further develop children’s access to education. The trustees of the charity provide training to teaching staff when they visit The Gambia each year. Previous workshops have also reached to other schools in the wider community, and trustees of 'Friends of Jan Jan Bureh,' were able to advance many teaching methods being used for a multiple of schools. 2017 saw the 10th anniversary of the Nursery, and over that time 'Friends of Jan Jan Bureh Nursery' have helped to build extra classrooms, a toilet block with flush toilets, and 2 outdoor sinks. The charity also paid for a perimeter fence which stops the goats getting in to the grounds. In December 2017, the charity sent a container of donated uniforms, underwear, books, toys and stationery out to the Nursery from England. |

FUNDRAISING
|
Over the 10 years the charity has been supporting the nursery, there have been many fundraising events for various needs and causes at the nursery. School dressing up days, an auction of promises, multiple bake sales, an African drumming concert, and a trustees skydive are just a few examples. The charity has also donated a large amount of equipment and resources for the nursery, including sports equipment, shoes, stationary, reading material, toys, underwear, tape recorders and sewing machines to use for making uniforms. |
